English
We are NJR, the biggest youth network in the Netherlands.
NJR stands for Nationale Jeugdraad (Dutch National Youth Council). Together with over 40 youth organizations, we stand up for what young people need. We enable young people to discover their strengths, make sure their voices are heard, and give them the chance to make a difference. That’s how we’re building a world where young people have a strong position, experience equal opportunities, and have confidence in the future.
International knowledge exchange
International knowledge exchange between young people is hugely important. That’s why NJR is a member of the European Youth Forum (YFJ) and maintains close ties with other European youth councils. We’re also exploring the needs and opportunities for international exchange between local youth initiatives. Think, for example, of collaborations between youth councils in border regions, or exchanges between similar towns and cities across countries.
Caribbean Netherlands
The Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands is important for us. Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba are special municipalities of the Netherlands, but the connection between the Caribbean and European Netherlands is often missing. Together with other organisations, we’re exploring how we can make sure young people on the BES islands are more actively involved in the issues that directly affect them.
Youth at the UN and the EU
We make sure the voices of Dutch young people are also heard on international level. Our ‘Youth Representatives’ (Jongerenvertegenwoordigers) are the link between youth in the Netherlands and the UN and the EU. Through guest lectures, events, and conversations with young people all over the country, they collect valuable input. They bring those insights, concerns, ideas, and needs to the table at international conferences, talking with leader, diplomats and policy makers.
